building Decathlon PLAY from zero to 1.3m+ users.
Rivi worked with Decathlon for more than three years to build and scale Decathlon PLAY - its sports + fitness platform in India. what started with a two-engineer team in 2021 grew into a 12-person product, design and engineering team building across fitness tracking, challenges, activities, booking, community, partner operations, commerce and loyalty.
building an ongoing relationship beyond retail.
Decathlon PLAY was created to help Decathlon engage customers beyond the purchase of sporting goods - helping people discover activities, participate in challenges, track sports and stay active.
Rivi worked alongside the Decathlon team across product strategy, product management, UI/UX, backend engineering, web, Android and iOS development.
over the course of the partnership, PLAY evolved from an early sports-engagement product into a broader platform connecting Decathlon customers, sports communities and activity partners.
the challenge, set in the room: 570k → 1 million.
in late 2023 the PLAY team put a number on the table. year-to-date user acquisition stood at roughly 570,000, and the challenge was to reach one million - which meant deciding what the digital product ecosystem should prioritise for the quarter, not just adding features.
Rivi ran the audit with them, helped set those priorities and then built against them.
one connected sports platform.
our team helped build and scale several major parts of the PLAY ecosystem.
product work that changed the numbers.
the work extended well beyond launching new features - we also rebuilt important operational workflows behind the platform, helping Decathlon’s internal teams and partners launch content and experiences significantly faster.
from two engineers to a long-term product partnership.
Rivi’s engagement started with two developers and expanded to a team of 12 across engineering, design and product - embedded in Decathlon’s own rituals rather than working at arm’s length.
the result: a product that grew from its earliest stages to more than 1.3 million users.
“the close collaboration between our teams helped us scale PLAY while bringing speed, agility and energy into the product.”
